Terry Carr
Terry Gene Carr ( born February 19, 1937 in Grants Pass, Oregon; † 7 April 1987) was an American science fiction author and editor.
Life and work
Carr was an avid editor of science fiction fan magazines, which helped to establish him as a full-time editor later. Although he wrote a number of works already in the sixties and published, Carr focused on the publication of literature. He first worked for Ace Books, where he developed the series Ace Science Fiction Specials, in the later, Winter planet (later The Left Hand of Darkness ) published among others by Ursula K. Le Guin and Rite of Passage by Alexei Panshin.
After disagreements with the director of Ace Books, Donald A. Wollheim, Carr worked independently. His publications include an anthology series called Universe, as well as a popular series of Best of the Year anthologies which were published from 1972 to 1987.
His writings and his large collection of fan magazines was included in the Eaton Collection of Science Fiction in the University of California, Riverside.
Carr's widow Carol Carr is also a science fiction author who is known for her books Some are born Cats (1973, together with her husband ) and You Think You've Got Troubles (1969 ) is known.
