Tesker

Region

Tesker (also: Tasker ) is a rural municipality and the capital of the eponymous department Tesker in Niger.

Geography

The sparsely populated Tesker extends over a wide area and has interests in two major regions: the Sahel zone in the south and the Sahara Desert in the north. In the northeast of the municipality, the up to 710 m high Termit massif rises. The neighboring municipalities are Teskers Fachi and Tabelot in the north, N'Gourti in the east, Alakoss, trowel and N'Guelbély in the south and Tenhya in the West.

The municipality is divided into 36 administrative villages, a traditional village, three hamlets, 29 warehouses and 144 water points. The main town of the rural community is the administrative village Tesker (also: Tasker ), which is located around 200 kilometers from the nearest main road.

History

In Tesker an administrative post in 1978 ( post administratif ) set up, one from a chef de poste administratif headed lower administrative unit. The rural community Tesker originated as an administrative unit in 2002 as part of a nationwide administrative reform in a previously unincorporated area. The administrative posts was removed in 2011 from the Department Gouré and collected at the Department Tesker.

Population

At the 2001 census Tesker had 24 703 inhabitants. For the year 2010 33.544 inhabitants were calculated. In Tesker Tubu that operate in the south of the country Agropastoralismus community and in the center and north remote pasture life. Specializing in remote pasture also are the Arabs living in the north of the rural community, as well as the members of the Tuareg subgroup Kanimatane and the Fulani subgroups Bororo'en, Dabanko'en, Oudah'en, Tountoumankej and Wodaabe.

Economy and infrastructure

In the capital Tesker are a military post and an important cattle market.
