Tabelot

Region

Tabelot (also: Tabelott ) is a rural municipality in the Department Tchirozérine in Niger.

Geography

The municipality is divided into 45 administrative villages, a traditional village, a hamlet, 20 warehouses and 16 water points. The main town of the rural community is the administrative village Tabelot in the center of the community. The oasis is inhabited by nomadic Tuareg. It lies in a valley on the southeastern edge of the Monts Bagzane, the highest region of high mountains Aïr in the Sahara. The neighboring municipalities are Tabelots Timia in the north, Fachi in the east, in the southeast Tesker, Tenhya in the south, southeast and Aderbissinat Dabaga in the Northeast.

History

In the municipality, the archaeological site of Gobero is a burial ground from the Holocene. The rural community Tabelot originated as an administrative unit in 2002 in a previously unincorporated area. 2009 tried floods in various places in the municipality for property damage, of which a total of 8000 residents were directly affected.

Population

At the 2001 census Tabelot had 20,667 inhabitants. For the year 2010 30.916 inhabitants were calculated.

Economy and infrastructure

In the gardens of Tabelot farming is done. Are grown, among other dates, millet, potatoes and onions. The bulbs are an important commodity that is brought into the regional capital Agadez. In Tabelot there is also a significant particularly for trade with Algeria livestock market.
