Tetsugoro Yorozu

Yorozu Tetsugoro (Japanese万 鉄 五郎; born February 17, 1885May 1, 1927 ) was a Japanese painter in Yōga style.

Life

Yorozu was born in a small village in Iwate Prefecture. His parents ran a business for agricultural and marine products. In 1903 he went with his brother to Tokyo and attended Waseda School (now Waseda University) and in 1905 the painting school of Hakuba- kai in Hongo. 1906, after leaving school, he went to America, but returned that same year and went on the painting school. As of 1907, visited the Tokyo Bijutsu Gakko (now Tōkyō Daigaku Geijutsu ) and his first success at exhibitions. 1914, after graduation, he went back to his old home, but returned in 1916 back to Tokyo.

Yorozu was active as a painter and graphic artist, was involved in the artistic community of Tokyo. He exhibited regularly, including in the semi-state intensity. He was involved in the establishment of various groups of artists, became a full member of the prestigious Shun'yōkai (春阳 会).

Early 1927 Yorozu ill with tuberculosis and died after a few months.

Style

Yorozu was among the first Japanese painters who recorded the effects of post-impressionism. Later influences of Fauvism and Expressionism were added, while he developed his distinctive style.
