Tetsuji Morohashi

Morohashi Tetsuji (Japanese诸 桥 辙 次, born June 4, 1883 in Morimachi, Minamikambara -gun (now Sanjō ); † December 8, 1982 ) was a Japanese scholar.

His research focus was on the Japanese language and Sinology. Best known he is jiten as editor of the Dai Kan - Wa ( " Great Sino- Japanese dictionary " ), the most comprehensive dictionary of Kanji. The Morohashi Tetsuji - Museum (诸 桥 辙 次 记念 馆) is located in his hometown Sanjō and Kangaku no Sato (漢学 の 里, dt " Home of China Customer") called.

He taught at the Humanities and Natural Sciences, University of Tokyo ( later Tokyo University of Education ), the Daitō - Bunka University and the Humanities University Tsuru, whose rector he was.

It was in 1943 awarded the Asahi Prize in 1965 and honored as Bunka Kōrōsha, as a person with special cultural merits.
