The devil is a wooded knoll slip of porphyry rock at Wendelsheim in Rheinhessen, which was formed in prehistoric times by the meadow brook. The approximately 260 m above sea level located plateau ends in a westerly direction with a 50 m deep slope. The name of the collection goes back to a legend that the devil was brought by a list of residents to slipping these steep, overgrown with thorns hang on the bare butt down. After that he was never seen there again.

Near the devil slip remains of a Celtic Fliehburg were discovered.

About 20 meters below the summit is the so-called " Schinderhannes cave " - a walk, about 60 meters long tunnel, whose initial design refers to the 14th century. There mercury was recovered, which occurs in the form of cinnabar. It was named after the infamous tunnel robbers, Schinderhannes, where the tunnel should have been used as shelter. However, this is controversial.

Since the 19th century the devil slip Rock is a popular destination because of the beautiful nature and picturesque outlook. 1885 was built on the summit of the so-called " Swiss House " to provide the tourists.

The Devil skid is an internationally known archaeological site of amethyst and other minerals.

By 2001, the devil slip mountain race was held on the road between Wendelsheim and Nack. Since the early eighties, it was held by the MSC Alzey. The track was one of the shortest and fastest routes in mountain racing. After 2001, the track could not get a license for mountain races: Meanwhile, a special stage of the Rheinhessen Rally will take it.
