Texas Theatre

The Texas Theatre is a theater building in Oak Cliff, a suburb of Dallas ( Texas).

The theater was built by the tool manufacturer and film producer Howard Hughes as part of its theater chain. On the day it opened on April 21, 1931, was considered the largest suburban theater of Dallas and because of its projection equipment and sound equipment as one of the most modern.

Of the time history was on 22 November 1963, when here Lee Harvey Oswald was arrested for his alleged murder of U.S. President John F. Kennedy and Police Officer JD Tippit.

Following the temporary closure of the house in 1989, the front facade in 1991 by film director Oliver Stone was for his film JFK - Tatort Dallas renovated. Finally closed it in 1995 after a fire which destroyed the movie screen and part of the roof. Finally, the Texas Theatre was restored as part of a broad urban renewal plan in 2003. In the same year it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on April 1.

Today, the theater is in addition to its function as a cinema and show stage as Gemeinschaftsort for the district.
