Textpattern

Textpattern is a free blog and content management system (CMS ) under the GPL, which can be used to create and update dynamic web pages. (English text pattern = German text )

Basics

Textpattern is written in PHP and requires a MySQL database. The system manages texts, cascading style sheets, graphics and links (references ) and generates both XHTML pages for viewing in Web browsers as well as news feeds in RSS and Atom formats. The collection of texts can be done in the simplified markup language or Textile in classic HTML.

Textpattern is designed so that it supports the developer of a website in his work without restricting it. This means however that Textpattern is shipped only with a very simple graphical template. Creating the design of the page, including XHTML and CSS is left to the developer. Meanwhile, however, also some ready templates are available that can be used after downloading immediately.

This fact limits the number of users of Textpattern, but results in more individual pages than for example with WordPress, which is often a default template will be used.

Formation

Textpattern was originally developed by Dean Allen. With the further dissemination of the system was formed a team of developers, which gradually took over the work of Dean Allen.

Version 4.0 was the first "official" version and was released on 14 August 2005. The current version 4.5.5 was released on October 4, 2013.
