Thala

Thala (Arabic تالة, DMG Tala ) is a city in the west of Tunisia with about 14,000 inhabitants, about 50 kilometers north of the city of Kasserine Kasserine Governorate in the same name.

Location

Thala is located in the west of Tunisia in the dorsal fin of Tellatlas good 25 kilometers east of the border with Algeria. The state capital Tunis is 250 km away. The city is over 1,000 meters high, making it the highest town in Tunisia.

History

As in many cities of the region also occurred in Thala during the Tunisian revolution in January 2011, clashes between protesters and security forces.

Economy

The region's economy is dominated by agriculture, especially livestock. Nearby Opuntia are planted. There are marble and limestone quarries, where the rock is further processed in a state-owned factory.
