Thallium ( I) chloride is a chemical compound from the group of thallium compounds and chlorides.
Occurrence
Thallium (I ) chloride occurs naturally as a mixed form with thallium (I ) bromide in the form of the very rare mineral Lafossait.
Production and representation
Thallium ( I) chloride may be prepared by reaction of thallium (I ) sulfate and thallium ( I) nitrate gain with hydrochloric acid.
Properties
Thallium (I ) chloride is a white non-flammable solid which is sparingly soluble in water. In dilute hydrochloric or nitric acid, it is, however, easily soluble. He is freshly prepared perfectly colorless, but is at the light purple. It has a crystal structure of cesium chloride type (a = 383.4 pm ).
Use
Thallium ( I) chloride is used for the preparation of compounds of binuclear complex ( Tl Cyclodiphosphazane ) have interesting metal -metal interactions. The chloride of the Tl- 201 can be used for myocardial scintigraphy.
