The Bare Necessities

Trying out comfort ( original English title: The Bare Necessities ) is a book written by Terry Gilkyson song that was used in the Disney film The Jungle Book. The title is in the English version of a word game that is based on the similar sound of bare and bear ( Baloo, the bear).

The song is sung in the original English by Phil Harris as Baloo and Bruce Reitherman as Mowgli. The German version of the song sang Edgar Ott as Balu and Stefan Sczodrok as Mowgli, the translation is by Henry Riethmueller. At the end of the film a version with the panther Bagheera (Joachim Cadenbach ) and Balu is sung.

The song was originally written for an earlier draft of the film, which was then abandoned, composes. The Sherman Brothers, who wrote the other songs of the film, but insisted that the song was included in the final version.

The song was nominated for an Oscar in the Best Song category.

Louis Armstrong recorded the song for the album Disney Songs the Satchmo Way. In 2005, Julie Andrews recorded the song for her album Julie Andrews Selects Her Favorite Disney Songs. Titus Burgess recorded the song for a BBC radio special on BBC Radio 2 Celebrates The Music of Disney. Bowling for Soup recorded the song for the Disney Mania 3 album.

The German version sang, among other things, Gottlieb Wryneck, Mike Krüger and Klaus and Klaus in the Quartet, Stefan Raab took the song with an altered text.
