The Books of Magic

The Books of Magic ( engl. The Books of Magic ) is a comic book series of the English author Neil Gaiman. It was established in 1990.

The boy Timothy Hunter learns by four mysterious men in trench coats, John Constantine, Doctor Occult, Phantom Stranger and Mister E, that it can be the greatest magician of his century. He agrees, and embarks on a journey full of hazards that can kill him. Timothy Hunter learns the world of magic and its inhabitants know.

Creation and publication

The first part of The Books of Magic is a four-part series written by Neil Gaiman. Each of the four books dealing with the travel Timothy Hunters with one of the men in trench coats. The booklets were designed by the subscribers to John Bolton, Scott Hampton, Charles Vess, and Paul Johnson, who each took a book. The series was published in 1990 and 1991 with Vertigo, an imprint of DC Comics.

As of 1994, the series with the writer John Ney Rieber was continued later also wrote Peter Gross. Signatories were Peter Gross, Gary Amaro and Peter Snejbjerg. Until 2000, the series consisted of 75 booklets. Both parts were later also published in anthologies, the first in a, the second in seven, however, include only the first 50 issues.

In German seven issues of the series from 1996 to 2002 appeared in Speed ​​Comics. Followed in 2004, a new edition of the first volume. The comic was also translated into Portuguese.

Adaptation

The publisher Harper Collins published in 2003 a series of novels by Carla Jablonski, based on the comics. It includes seven volumes.
