Bob Dylan: The Bootleg Series Vol 8: Tell Tale Signs: Rare and Unrealeased 1989-2006 is a 2008 book published by Columbia Records album of Bob Dylan and the result of his " Bootleg Series" of rare and unpublished records.

Classification

All recordings are from the period 1989-2006, in which Dylan's work in a clear direction can be seen: The tracks will be original and are based on the beginning of his career. It turns back to the folk and blues songs. Also in Dylan's life herewith begins the liberation from the crisis. The titles are usually instrumented sparse, often only to hear Dylan himself with guitar.

Publications

Regular it was released as a double CD and limited edition with three CDs. Later, it was also as a single album, issued consisting of 1 double CD version. The version with the 3 CD also includes a 150 -page book and a few issues a 7 " vinyl single with two additional tracks.

Announcements of the record company that the two- CD version $ 18.99 and the three-party version should cost $ 129.99, attracted criticism from Bob Dylan biographer Michael Gray and others up.

In the first week of October 2008, the entire album in a free streaming format on the official website of National Public Radio was available.

Songs

The titles are neither chronologically nor always complete. The album includes photographs of Oh Mercy, World Gone Wrong, Time Out of Mind and Modern Times, as well as a number of previous, unreleased tracks from the years 1989 to 2006. Compilation further includes a song from an album that Dylan 1992 David Bromberg had begun to produce, but never completed it, and a duet with Ralph Stanley the Lonesome River. Although Under the Red Sky, Good As I Been To You and " Love and Theft " were recorded during this period, no tracks from this shoot will be included. Another version of Series of Dreams was released on The Bootleg Series Vol.3. Dreamin ' Of You an outtake of the Time Out of Mind recordings, was offered as a free download on Dylan's website and sent to several radio stations as " Promotional Single".

Many titles are available only in a different version. The differences are partly large and let the history of the ultimately released songs become clear.

Deluxe Edition

The official Bob Dylan website offered a deluxe edition, including a 150 - page book and a bonus CD with additional tracks. Fans who pre-ordered this directly on the Bob Dylan site, still got a 7 " vinyl record them. The first 5,000 buyers also a poster has been paid.

Commercial success

Tell Tale Signs landed in its first week at number 6 in the Billboard 200 list. It's Bob Dylan's seventeenth album, which came in the top 10.

Reviews

Tell Tale Signs last held 86 % positive reviews on Metacritic.

The Rolling Stone Magazine for four and a half out of five stars and sees this album as a new proof that Dylan often a better " production instinct " has as its producer.
