As a final act, the outgoing U.S. President pardoned the Washington collar criminals Joel Backman. This was sentenced to twenty years in prison, because he was in possession of software that can control secret satellite systems.

But no one knows that Backman was pardoned only under pressure from the CIA. However, the Agency is not interested in Backman, but his information on the satellite systems. In a cloak-and - dagger operation Backman is out of jail and brought to Europe. There he gets a new look and a new identity.

First he comes to the Italian Treviso, where he met the CIA agent Luigi before it brings him to Bologna. There he meets the Italian language fits into the life and builds close contact with his language teacher Francesca.
