The Collective, Inc.

The Collective, Inc. was an American game development studio for computer games, headquartered in Newport Beach, California. Since its foundation in 1997 the company has several games developed, which were based mainly on films and television programs.

History

The company was founded in 1997 by Douglas Hare, Gary Priest and Richard Hare, three former employees of Virgin Interactive. The first projects of the company were the ports of games Men in Black and the board game adaptation of the game of life, which had appeared up to this time only for Windows, the PlayStation game console. The developers worked predominantly in securities whose names were known from film and television and licensed for this. They continued to develop their own game development software called Slayer, which they used among other things for the development of games Buffy and Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb. In 2004, the company had 90 employees.

On 29 March 2005, announced that The Collective will join together with Backbone Entertainment under the umbrella company Foundation 9 Entertainment. As of 2007, in turn merged The Collective within Foundation 9 with Shiny Entertainment to Double Helix Games.
