The Devil's Blood was a Dutch Hard-Rock-/Psychedelic-Rock-Band with occult and Satanic background.

History

( † 2014 * 1980 in Eindhoven ) and Farida Lemouchi The band was founded in late 2007 in Eindhoven, the siblings of Selim. While he was previously a guitarist in the Dutch heavy metal band Power Vice, his nine years older sister Farida sang in bands of different directions ( eg Red King Rising ). Selim Lemouchi was the sole composer and lyricist of the band, but had a hard time with this name:

"It 's hard for me to describe myself as a writer of The Devil's Blood, because I do not think that I myself have much to do with it. The words just seem to flow through me. I have to write it as soon as possible, otherwise I lose them. So I can not say exactly who or what has influenced me when, writing ' of the texts, because the biggest influence is Satan. "

Initially launched only as a project, the band with the members of the Dutch black metal band Urfaust took the demo The Graveyard Shuffle on, the elected, inter alia, in the Rock Hard for demo of the month and later as a 7 "single from the record label of the band was again published. The following in November 2008 EP Come, Reap received positive reviews in the trade press. In September 2009, the first studio album The Time of No Time Evermore was released, which also got positive reviews. The Group publishes all the works in the vinyl format because Selim Lemouchi himself said that he hated CDs. In November 2011, the second studio album The Thousandfold Epicentre appeared.

On January 22, 2013, the band announced via Facebook their resolution, to which they did not wish to express; the scheduled performances were canceled. In May 2013 posthumously released their last album III: Tabula Rasa or Death and the Seven Pillars, which was recorded in Lemouchis home studio and with partially programmed drums. The band broke up before they could begin the actual recording in a professional recording studio.

Selim Lemouchi died in early March 2014, the circumstances are not known.

Musical style and background

Musically, the band has its roots in the psychedelic rock of the 1970s; Farida Lemouchis singing is compared with that of the Coven singer Jinx Dawson. In addition, influences of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, especially the early releases from Iron Maiden and bands like Hawkwind and Rush are mentioned. Selim Lemouchi called Roky Erickson, lead singer and guitarist of The 13th Floor Elevators, as one of his main influences. So on Come, Reap a cover version of White Faces, a song that Erickson in 1981 took up with his former band Stay alien.

Before live performances, the musicians were doused with animal blood, as it does among other things, the band Watain; the pig's blood, which used the band saw it as " a way to wear death on stage and thereby become less human. One way to make our own identities and personalities disappear and become ghosts. We have a butcher near where we buy ten or 20 liters of blood. The we freeze and use them later in our rituals " Selim Lemouchi saw the concerts as rituals, during which occurred the musicians in the background.:

"We try very consciously not to present ourselves as a ' band ' because we want to be seen not as people, not as individuals. While we play our music, we are possessed by Satan. This is my life, my destiny, the path that I have chosen a few years ago. The Devil's Blood are like a magnifying glass for our grief, our anger, our hatred and our happiness. When we leave the stage after a ritual again, we return to our own personal being. Then everyone can do it again and leave what he wants. "

The band referred to its " ideological proximity to bands like Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult or Watain and Dissection " Lemouchi gave Dissection and its creative head Jon Nödtveidt as a strong musical and lyrical influence and has replied to the Misanthropic Luciferian Order ( MLO ) the Nödtveidt belonged, " the greatest respect " without the members of The Devil's Blood MLO members were. Accordingly Lemouchi believed in the " chaos that comes after the death of this world and the universe," and described his spiritual source as formless:

"I believe in things that you whisper secrets and bring wisdom. Confuse and try to destroy you, the you. And the fact that this is not something you would have to have fear, but something to be desired. You can tell already that I, directly communicating with this source, which leads me. But I might not be now or describe her face. "
