The Dresden Soul Symphony (album)

Genesis
The idea for The Dresden Soul Symphony project goes back to Reinhard Bärenz, the musical director of the radio station MDR Sputnik, and Dena Joy Lane. Bärenz, who had played professionally in an orchestra violin in the 1980s, had already played a long time with the idea of "making a symphony orchestra a trip to the pop genre ." Joy Dena Lane suggested in 2007 to connect with soul, after she had given a concert in the broadcasting studio of MDR Sputnik.
Bärenz asked the MDR Radio Director Johann Michael Möller for assistance. This was taken with the idea and ordered the MDR Symphony Orchestra. Then Bärenz began to contact other musicians. Both designed the Dresden Soul Symphony within six months. They put this together 20 different soul classics, they rushed one in four sets. The show took place on 26 and 27 April 2008 at the old slaughterhouse in Dresden, two days before had all artists rehearsed together for the first time. During the concert, Joy Dena Lane, Bilal, Dwele Tweet and were accompanied by the 130 -member MDR Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Jun Märkl. Other actors were the MDR- children's choir, four backup singers and four soloists who did not belong to the orchestra.
The photo was taken during the same concerts on 26 and 27 April 2008 in Dresden. The radio station MDR Sputnik and MDR Figaro were broadcasting the concert live on April 27. In the show, there was a one-time event. On 24 October 2008, the recording was made as a live CD by Four Music in the trade. At the same time the concert was released on DVD.
