The European Railway Award

The European Railway Award is an award which is awarded for outstanding services to the rail industry since 2007 by the Community of European Railways, UNIFE and the European Rail Infrastructure Managers (EIM ). The prize is awarded in two categories: "politics" and " technology" and each is endowed with 10,000 euros, which will go to a charitable institution after election of the winner.

Award winners

Among the previous winners of the Prize include technical Jean Dupuy in 2007 for the development of the first TGV and 2009, the Swedish railway engineer Bengt Sterner as the "father " of the system ERTMS for the control of railway traffic. Have received the political price, 2007, the former EU Transport Commissioner Karel Van Miert for laying the foundations for an integrated European railway market and in 2009 the Swiss Transport Minister ( head of DETEC ) Moritz Leuenberger for his political commitment to promote a modal shift from road to rail.

2010, the technical prize was awarded to the former member of the board of Deutsche Bahn Roland Heinisch; the political price was the former Spanish Prime Minister Felipe González. Heinisch received his award for significant contributions to the technical development of the railways at the national and international level, in particular, its use for high -speed connections between France, Belgium and Germany was mentioned. For the award of the political price to González was decisive in his decision to promote the Spanish economy through major investments in high-speed traffic.
