The Fureys

The Fureys is an Irish folk band, played along in up to four brothers. At times called the band The Fureys and Davey Arthur.

Band History

The group was founded in 1978 by the four brothers Finbar, Eddie, Paul and George Furey. Previously, the musicians played in other bands. In the early 1970s, Eddie and Finbar Furey was a well known duo. Paul Furey joined together with Davey Arthur and Brendan Leeson on as The Buskers. Both bands were participants of the " Irish Folk Festival ", which toured Germany in 1974. Here they played already as The Furey Brothers, and together with her father Ted, a famous fiddler, as The Furey Family.

Early on, she also showed contemporary pop influences in addition to traditional Irish music. The greatest successes had the Fureys Davey Arthur along with. The single When You Were Sweet Sixteen reached # 14 in the UK singles charts and was number 1 in Ireland. The Green Fields of France was also Irish number one and stayed 28 weeks in the singles charts. In addition, the band had with Golden Days and At the End of the Day two Top 40 albums in the UK.

Finbar Furey left the band in 1996 to develop his solo career. Paul Furey died of cancer in 2002.

In 2008, the band celebrated its 30th anniversary, to which she toured and recorded.
