The Gambler (Prokofiev)

The player (Russian: Игрок - Igrok ) is an opera in four acts by Sergei Prokofiev based on the novel by Dostoyevsky.

Prokofiev began in 1915, to deal with the novel by Dostoyevsky. He completed the work in 1917; year of the revolution, however, was not to think of a world premiere. Twelve years later he revised the opera. The premiere finally took place on 29 April 1929 at the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels.
