The Hazards of Love is the fifth studio album by American indie folk band The Decemberists, which was published on 24 March 2009. This was inspired album of Anne Briggs ' EP The Hazards of Love. First wanted Colin Meloy, lead singer and guitarist, designate only one song after the EP, but later it became a full-length album. Becky Stark ( Lavender Diamond), Shara Worden ( My Brightest Diamond) and Jim James (My Morning Jacket ) were involved in The Hazards of Love.

On 15 January 2009 " The Rake 's Song " was released for free on your own Myspace page. A month later, " The Hazards of Love 1", also available on MySpace for free download.

The Hazards of Love was released on March 17 on iTunes, the CD and vinyl version came on March 24 in the stores.

The entire album was released on December 1, exclusively on iTunes as an animated video under the name Here Come the Waves: The Hazards of Love Visualized.

Action

The Hazards of Love is about a love story, similar to the recurring stories of the previous album The Crane Wife: Margaret ( sung by Becky Stark) falls in love with William ( Colin Meloy ), a living in a boreal coniferous forest shapeshifter. A jealous forest queen ( Shara Worden ), the wicked rake ( Colin Meloy ) and other supporting characters play in the story also play a role.
