The Hold Steady

The Hold Steady is an American indie rock band from New York.

Band History

After his band Lifter Puller 2000 had dissolved in Minneapolis, it pulled the singer and guitarist Craig Finn to New York, where he spent two years later together with ex - bandmate Tad Kubler and drummer Judd Counsell, and bassist Galen Polivka, all experienced musicians in the mid-thirties, The Hold Steady founded. A year later, her debut album Almost Killed Me appeared The album was well received by critics, but was not a huge commercial success. The same was true for album number two Separation Sunday.

It was followed by several line-up changes, after which finally Bobby Drake took over the post of the drummer and Franz Nicolay joined them on keyboards. In addition, the band changed labels and signed with Vagrant Records. Their third album in three years, Boys and Girls in America then brought, first presentable results. It was a top 5 hit in the Heatseekers charts and was even able to place two weeks in the official Billboard 200 album charts in the United States.

With the album Stay Positive The Hold Steady then took the step to Europe. It was published on 14 and 15 July, 2008 in the UK and the U.S., and while it was as successful as its predecessor in their home, they could go into the UK charts at number 15 right away.

On 23 January 2010, the band announced on their website that their keyboardist Franz Nicolay left the band.
