The Honeycombs

The quintet was founded in 1963 under the name The Sheraton and had for that time a rarity in its ranks: a drummer, namely Ann Lantree. This gave the band then its final name. "Honey" was Ann's nickname, " combs " ( Combs ) was added, because they had previously been a hairdresser. This resulted in a pun, because " Honeycombs " is English for "Honeycomb ".

1964 got the group a record contract, and already the first single Have I The Right has been successful. It was one of the early works of the successful British authors team Ken Howard / Alan Blaikley. The overdriven and produced with a lot of overdubbing in the independent recording studios by Joe Meek single reached in the UK the first rank of the charts and became - after sales of 250,000 copies in the UK alone - later to worldwide million-seller.

In 1967 when her producer Joe Meek died, the group disbanded.

Martin Murray has The Honeycombs now back filled ( with Lee Howard, Jim Green and Chris Randall, Olli Tooley and Sacha Flory ).
