The House That Ananda Built

The House That Ananda Built is an Indian short documentary by Fali Bilimoria from the year 1967.

He portrays a peasant family of Vaishya caste in the village Nadpur in the state of Orissa. In addition to the traditional farm life he also examines the relationship of the father to his sons, who have moved to different parts of India and lead a modern life.

The well-researched and written film essay, illustrated with portraits of the family and other villagers because of its 20 -minute format missed something his deep intention, however, remains a milestone of Indian documentary.

The film was a critical success and was nominated as the first Indian documentary at the Academy Awards in 1969 for Best Short Documentary.
