The Irrawaddy

The Irrawaddy ( Burmese ဧရာဝတ, transcribed according to MLCT ei: wa ra ti. ) Is a monthly newspaper which is published in English and Burmese. The newspaper reported mainly from Burma (Myanmar ), but also from the Southeast Asia region.

The Irrawaddy has been published since 1992 and is since 1999, published by the Irrawaddy Publishing Group, Chiang Mai, Thailand, which was founded in 1993 by Burmese journalists in exile. Editor in chief since its inception Aung Zaw, who had left the country after the takeover of the Burmese military in 1988.

The online edition of the newspaper contains news, interviews and commentaries and multimedia reports and an archive. The newspaper is regarded as a reliable source, and often cited by international media.
