The Legendary Pink Dots

The Legendary Pink Dots (LPD ) are an Anglo- Dutch experimental rock band that was formed in August 1980 in London and in 1984 moved to Amsterdam. The core of the band are singer and mastermind Edward Ka - Spel ( again reminiscent of the stage to crack lines on the face wore) and keyboardist Phil Knight (better known as "The Silverman "). Otherwise, the band over the years and decades to the three dozen supporters belonged to. This includes especially the violinist Patrick Q. Wright (1984-1989) and bassist / drummer Ryan Moore (1992-2000) should be emphasized.

The band's name comes from a used in the early years of piano, on the white keys with pink nail varnish dots were painted to mark finger positions.

The Legendary Pink Dots had live performances, among others at the Wave -Gotik-Treffen 1994, 2002, 2006, and 2011 and the Mera Luna Festival 2008.

Style

Musically, the Legendary Pink Dots move between all varieties of psychedelic rock of the 1960s and the Wave music of the 1980s, on the other hand they defy any classification. It is dominated by bizarre, avant-garde sound collages, but which may also take the form of catchy ear worms. There have been comparisons to Syd Barrett and Pink Floyd made ( particularly in relation to the texts ), but also Brian Eno and Krautrock of Can, Neu! and power plant are called from time to time. The style of the LPD has differentiated itself over the decades and varies but is still distinctive.

Ka -spels singing is characteristic: He seems always to excessive, exaggerated and over-stretched, and is partially used as an instrument. The texts are mostly preaching, partly presented screaming and have their own, mostly dark or marked by dark humor mythology. Content, they revolve around apocalyptic or fantastic events, or to grotesque incidents in an apparent reality. This is played primarily with suggestive images.

A happy widespread legend tells that the LPD would actually get an offer from a major pop label, it would have seen more than a year undetected in the fan mail.

Although the band has never really been in the catchment area of the mainstream, it now has an infra fan base around the world and can an output of more than 40 albums have (although some early works, however, are released on cassette). There are also several side projects, some excursions on a solo career, some collaborations ( " Mimir " or " Tear Garden " with cEvin Key of Skinny Puppy, as well as guest posts on Nurse With Wound and Andrew Liles ).

Nevertheless, the band asks on its website: "Support Your Band " - but it is here primarily to send private recordings of past concerts.
