The man in the mountains ( Original title: The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams) is an American television and film an American Western television series.
The productions are based on the 1973 published novel Life and Times of Grizzly Adams by Charles E. Sellier, in which he describes the life of James Capen Adams. However, the film and the series only adapt the idea and shift the action in time and space away from the life of the historical figure.
Action
The series takes place in a largely unexplored area in the western U.S. mid-19th century. At the beginning of the series flees the main character, James " Grizzly " Adams, because he is accused of a crime he did not commit in order henceforth to live hidden in the mountains, in the wilderness. Here he built himself a hut and begins a new life. A major element of the series is the closeness to nature, which manifests itself in extensive and varied landscapes and many animal shots. One of the storylines is the domestication of animals, which is a talent of Adam. His nickname " Grizzly " Adams received for the taming of a young grizzly bear, which he calls Ben - the historic person James Adams also had such a bear he named after Benjamin Franklin.
The most important supporting roles are those of the Trappers Mad Jack with his stubborn donkey number seven and the Indian Nakoma that support Adams in his adventures. These usually consist of a threat to friends and random acquaintances who find themselves in emergency situations and dangers that Adams tackled alone and with the support of others.
In contrast to other Western series this time is generally dispensed with violence and use of firearms. By supporting roles and guest roles is rather dealt with issues related to family, hunting, repopulation by "whites" and conflicts with the local Indian tribes.
