The Magnolia Electric Co. is the ninth and final album by Songs: Ohia under the former band name. It is therefore also the last work that consists mainly of wistful, introspective ballads like " Farewell Transmission", " Just Be Simple" or the heartbreaking " Peoria Lunch Box Blues" (feat. Jennie Bedford ). It was produced by Steve Albini in 2003 ( also produced albums by Nirvana, Bush or PJ Harvey ) in Chicago.

Following frontman Jason Molina brings together a new group to be constant, while he had previously worked with musicians often changing and it is Songs: Ohia had acted earlier to a solo project of his hand. With the new band The Magnolia Electric Co., whose name refers to this album, the sound is lively, country -heavy, loud and rocking.

Publication

The album was released on 10 March 2003 by Secretly Canadian on CD and vinyl. Both editions carry the part number SC076 and are commercially available.
