The Message (Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five song)

The Message is a song by Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five in 1982, which was written by Edward Fletcher, Melle Mel and Bobby Robinson. It was released in the same album.

History

The Message is often referred to as the most important hip-hop song, and is the first hip -hop record that has ever come to be accepted in the United States National Archive of Historic Recordings. It is not the first rap song, which deals with the frustration of life in the ghetto, but the turning away from the faster disco rhythm to a slower, mainly based on song lyric, that time was novel. Was released the song on May 13, 1982.

In Rolling Stone's list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time reached the number 51, also landed the rap in VH1's list of " 100 Greatest Songs of Hip Hop " at No. 5

In the video game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, the song is played on the fictitious radio station Wildstyle Pirate Radio.

Music Video

The music video is inspired by the lyrics of the song, the video is filmed in a U.S. ghetto. At the beginning of the video through two band members from Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five along a walkway, then looks to drive sections of a large city and taxis. After that shatters a glass, and Grandmaster Flash plays with his band the song; then you see a tow truck. Later we see more excerpts city: including a jam pedestrians and an old woman. Incidentally circulate many passersby also a peep show. The scenes in which the band presents the song and sung excerpts shown to intersect in fade-outs. After Melle Mel also took over a part of the performance, telephoned a woman, and a homeless man is around, while an ambulance passes by.
