The New Testament in the Original Greek

The New Testament in the Original Greek is a text edition of the New Testament in Greek, which was published in 1881. The text is by its editors Brooke Foss Westcott (1825-1901) and Fenton John Anthony Hort (1828-1892) known as Westcott and Hort.

It is a text- critical edition, which was compiled from the oldest fragments of the New Testament and the previously discovered texts. The first beginnings of the issue began in 1853 when the currently existing text editions of Karl Lachmann and Konstantin von Tischendorf for Westcott and Hort turned out to be insufficient to provide a clear idea about the readings and the right Bible text .. agreed completely independent work and just compare the preliminary results. Where they both came to the same conclusion, the text has been adopted, where they had permanent differences, the other readings were considered "alternative readings" in the apparatus. Both were members of the Committee for the publication of the Revised Version of 1881. The editors usually favored the text of the Codex Sinaiticus and the text of Codex Vaticanus, so they differed in many places from the previous editions of texts that still receptus based in many cases on the currently very outdated Textus.
