The Parlotones

The Parlotones are a South African indie rock band from Johannesburg.

Band History

The singer and songwriter of the band, Kahn Morbee, learned at the age of 17 years to play the guitar and began writing songs. In summer 1998, he met the drummer Neil Pauw know at his high school. They recognized their common taste in music and formed the band. At the University Morbee met guitarist Paul Hodgson, who joined the band. Hodgson's younger brother, the guitar, piano and bass could play, completed the band as a bassist. The Parlotones played three years as a quartet, before they recorded in July 2002, John Boyd, who added the music a light synth and sound effect.

2006 the band signed a contract with the international division of Universal Music. The treaty, which included France, Japan, Germany, the Netherlands, Northern Ireland and the United Kingdom, began with the single Beautiful. In Germany, the music was played during the alternative rock station Motor FM. The music video to Colourful reached via Dubai the MTV Europe. 2006 won The Parlotones with Radiocontrolledrobot the SAMA Award for Best Rock Album. The single Overexposed was the title theme in the short film FHM World's Hottest Woman.

In 2007, the international artist agency Primary UK, which also Panic! at the Disco, Allen, The Cure, Fall Out Boy and The Streets represents the band under contract. The album A World Next Door to Yours was produced in Bellville and was released in late 2007. According to the bassist Glenn Hodgson could be The Parlotones of The Beatles and The Rolling Stones as Coldplay, REM and Snow Patrol inspired.

On July 7, 2007 The Parlotones played at the Live Earth concert in Randburg.

2008 The Parlotones signed for Germany, Austria and Switzerland a record deal with the indie label east zone music. In October and November 2009, The Parlotones were on tour in Germany and were accompanied by the Krefeld band Oh, Napoleon. On 4 June 2010 their album Stardust Galaxies has been released in Germany. With the track Push Me to the Floor from the album Stardust Galaxies they performed at the opening ceremony of the Football World Cup 2010. The German made ​​the song Come Back As Heroes from the same album for the German World Cup song 2010.

2011 they released three albums - two Live-CD/DVDs and an acoustic album. The Parlotones won South African Music Awards in three categories. In October 2011, they play as a support act for Coldplay perform two concerts in Cape Town and Johannesburg.
