Content

Christine Perkinger moved with her husband Uwe and the small, four -year-old Clara in a small town. Uwe is a policeman with heart and soul, he throws himself into the new job and voluntarily accepts each layer in order to procure for the small family money to " get ahead " as he always says.

Christine is much alone with Clara. This sometimes leads to tensions with Uwe, who seems to be working more and more. Christine takes a lot during the day with Clara and their childlike enthusiasm for the new big world out there and Christine puts more and more. Together with Clara she searches for the " animal houses " - has since seen Clara on the playground a mole, she wants to visit all the animals in their homes. Christine and Clara search the homes of rabbits, ducks, mice, and birds as well as the fox. For the little Clara a huge world that seems to be endless: the playgrounds with the other children, the foreign houses. A small town can be a universe, a single block one world. Clara's enthusiasm and joy of each day new world is Christine.

And at other times again the young woman feels very alone in a small, strange town. Christine misses her husband. She has the feeling that all the work changed him that he takes his official problems with home. Even Uwe has the feeling that he misses something that her mother Clara is closer than him. That makes him sad and jealous. Can you be as close as a father to the child, as the mother is?

A look at the life of a young family.

Production and background

Filming lasted from 11 April to 19 June 2010. Was shot in the city Münsterland wage, which is close to the Dutch border and in the vicinity. Production company was the Philip Gröning Filmproduktion ( Dusseldorf ) in co-production with Bavaria Pictures GmbH (Munich - Geiselgasteig ) and the 3L Filmproduktion GmbH (Dortmund ) in cooperation with the Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR), ZDF and Arte. The film was sponsored by the Film and Media NRW ( Dusseldorf ), the German Federal Film Fund (DFFF ) (Berlin ), the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and Media Film Promotion ( Berlin) and the Federal Film Board (FFA ) (Berlin ).

Philip Groening sketched in his film The wife of the policeman on a gentle way, the perspective of a small child on the small and big changes introduced by the relocation of a family with him. To be able to fully concentrate on the actors and in particular the actress who played little Clara, who is played by identical twin sisters, Philip Groening gave up a script. Especially children should not reenact scenes, but situations should be sensitively developed with them.

Philip Gröning has already in his award-winning films summer!, Terrorists and Stachoviak! worked without a script. Due to the intensive and trusting working with the actors was special. " A look at the reality that touches in its immediacy. "

Criticism

" The wife of the police is a biorhythmisches experiment consisting of snapshots, atmospheric capsules, small self-contained stories. Mother, father, child. How do they relate to each other, touch each other, live in the light of the other, for each other are there. How the interaction fails. As the tenderness sets the tone. In the next chapter, the infinite, indescribable pain. A watchful eye of the camera captures all the movements, controls the view of the bruises. [ ...] It is a strange decision that Philip Gröning has taken in so many ponderous to divide the wife of the police, separate sections. But it works. "
