The Pool (game)

The Pool is a book published in 2000, free universal role playing game that was written by James V. West.

The idea behind The pool is narrative role-play, work together in the player and game master to tell a story. For this reason, it relies on a rules- light system, an open system property and conflict - resolution task instead. This concept has set new standards, and today can be considered as one of the established The Pool Indy RPG systems. Many role players see it next to a Sorcerer of the most important representatives of the narrative role-playing game.

Understanding

The Pool is based on a pool system with multiple W6. Each player begins with a dice pool of the 15W6 changing in tandem with the character creation and play.

Character Creation

The character creation is done by writing down designs - things that describe the character. It may be like classic role-playing games involve attributes and skills, but also about archetypes ( " greedy industrialist " ), character traits ( " Moody " ), relationships ( " love to my wife " ), or other properties (" Mag spicy food " ). Each of these motifs is a value 1-3 assigned to be purchased from the initial dice pool of 15W6. The cost is the value of the subject high 2 A motif of one so taste a cube, one of two four cubes and one of 3 nine cubes. For subjects issued cube not available during the course of the game available.

Conflict resolution

Conflicts are actions whose outcome is uncertain, such as the climbing a wall. The basic dice pool for the implementation of the action is the value of a matching motif, or 0 if one is not present. The player can reduce the chances of this conflict improve in that it uses dice from his store. The game leader can also provide 1-3 cubes available, depending on how important he keeps the happy outcome of the conflict for the rest of the game. If the dice show at least a 1, the conflict for the player is happy assumed, otherwise it is unsuccessful and all dice used for this sample from the storage are lost. After a happy outgoing conflict, the player receives 1-3 cubes of his game manager, he may add his dice pool, and the GM told the outcome of the conflict. The player can this reward but also reject and instead hold a so-called " monologue " - the player describes the outcome of the conflict.

Experience

At the end of a game session the dice pool of a player will be increased to 9, if he should have less dice, otherwise they remain with the previous state of our knowledge player can use this stock to buy new designs or improve existing, at the same cost as in character creation. The leftover after the increase cube form directly to the dice pool for the next meeting.
