The Rankin Family

The Rankin Family or The Rankin is a Canadian group from Mabou on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. The musical style ranged from Irish folk, American folk, bluegrass and country.

Career

The Rankin Family emerged from a 12-member musical family who supported her neighbors at carnivals and churches with their music.

In 1989, five of the siblings decided to make music professionally. They started with the recording of two albums The Rankin Family (1989) and Fare Thee Well Love (1990 ), which own songs as well as a mix of traditional jigs, reels and Irish folk contained. Of these albums, they sold 35,000 and 40,000 units.

Her first television appearance was in CBC show On The Road Again 1989.

The most successful album was the re-release of Fare Thee Well Love in 1992 with EMI. Thus they reached four times platinum and sold over 500,000 copies. In 1993, the album North Country was published, which contained a mixture of pop and Irish folk. The album Endless Season was produced in Nashville in 1995, placing a stronger emphasis has been placed on the inclusion of guitar and keyboard. With the album Uprooted, produced by George Massenburg, again succeeded in the mixture of Irish folk and pop music.

On 17 September 1999, the Group announced that it will no longer occur together longer. The reasons for the different plans for the future of the members were called. John Morris Rankin died on January 16, 2000 in a car accident near Margaree Harbour on Cape Breton Island. Jimmy Rankin is now a successful solo artist. The sisters Cookie, Raylene and Heather appear as "The Rankin Sisters " on. 2007 was a reunion.

Raylene Rankin died on September 30, 2012 from breast cancer.
