The Rooftop Singers

The Rooftop Singers was a musical group, emerged in the early 1960s in New York as part of the folk revival.

The members of the trio were Erik Darling, Bill Svanoe and Lynne Taylor ( 1928-1982 ). Darling (guitar, vocals) was previously at the Weavers, where he had replaced Pete Seeger in 1958. In 1962, he heard a recording of Walk Right In, the end of the 1920 hit by Gus Cannon's Jug Stompers had been. With Svanoe (guitar, vocals) and Taylor ( jazz singer ), he recorded the piece in 1963.

Walk Right In reaching # 1 on the U.S. charts and became a worldwide hit. It was the only hit of the Rooftop Singers, who are thus another example of a One Hit Wonders. In 1963 she appeared at the Newport Folk Festival on, with a live album was recorded. It appeared a few more singles and two albums, Good Time and Rainy River. In 1967, the trio disbanded.
