The San Remo

The San Remo is a luxury apartment building in New York's Central Park, more specifically at Central Park West between West 74th Street and West 75th Street.

The by architect Emery Roth building was completed in 1930, replacing the previous hotel standing at this point, " San Remo ", whose name was adopted for the new apartment building. It is the tallest of several well-known apartment buildings on the west side of Central Park. More built by the same architect in the same street houses are: The Beresford, The Eldorado and The Ardsley. Less than one- third that is the only two blocks away Dakota, where John Lennon lived until his death.

The building has a U-shaped floor plan that provides more rooms with daylight. Particularly striking are the two towers, perched on the seventeen -story main structure and are designed in the style of the English Baroque. These have ten more floors and make the San Remo with 122 m height already recognizable from a distance. Contrary to what one might think at first glance, these towers are not symmetrical, but have on the side facing away from the Central Park side bulges.

Today, the San Remo with the location on Central Park one of the most sought after and with apartment prices ranging between 3 und $ 24 million also one of the most expensive addresses in New York. Some of the most famous residents are Steven Spielberg, Dustin Hoffman, Bono, who bought his apartment of Steve Jobs - which was expensive to renovate the property, but never spent a night there, according to the broker - and Bruce Willis.

Madonna, however, has tried in vain to buy an apartment in the San Remo. They failed because of the opposition of the "Board " - the owner representation.
