The Scabs

The Scabs are a Flemish garage rock and punk band. The group comes from Diest and played from 1979 to 1996 together. After 2007, she graduated in irregular sequence reunion gigs.

Band History

The original line-up of Scabs got together in 1979. It consisted of singer and guitarist Guy Swinnen, guitarist Berre Bergen, bassist and drummer Frankie Francis Vangeel Saenen. Heavily influenced by the British punk was the group of the late 1970s; in the early 1980s they were sometimes referred to as the Belgian answer to the British punk band The Clash. The first single from So Called Friends appeared in 1981. After two self-produced singles, the group signed a record deal with EMI. After the mini- LP Here's to You gear! and the less successful album debut album For All The Wolf Calls EMI parted from the band.

The subsequent dry spell was ended after a few line-up changes and the change to a new label. As a new bassist in 1984 Fons Sijmons joined the group. A new, more oriented to garage rock bands as well as the style of the early Rolling Stones play In 1986, the guitarist Willy Lambregt ( Artist name: Willy Willy ). After Lambregt who with singer Dani Klein already in the formation There have Knights! had worked, was briefly changed over to the pop band Vaya Con Dios, he returned in 1990 to the Scabs back. In 1987, the group arrived at the Belgian independent label Play It Again Sam under contract. Your success Zenit had the band with the two albums Royalty in Exile (1990) and Jumping the Tracks (1991). After 1993, the band fell again into a commercial doldrums. 1994 Willy Lambregt left the group in 1994 after internal disputes. As a new guitarist Tjenne rose Berghmans, who had previously played in the formations Betty Goes Green and Clousseau.

By 1995, the group produced three more albums and a live CD on the market. 1996 The Scabs dissolved. On the occasion of the 25th band birthday they gave 2007, three reunion concerts, including at the Ancienne Belgique in Brussels. 2008 and 2009 followed by more concerts and festival appearances - including at the Festival TW Classic and the Suikerrock Festival.

Name

The band's name comes from the English term " Scab ", colloquially synonymous with " scabs ". The name comes from Guy Swinnen, who chose this after he had seen a BBC DReprotage over a miners' strike in England. The literal meaning of Scab is: scab ( on a wound ).
