The Secret Policeman's Balls

The Secret Policeman 's Ball is an event in aid of Amnesty International, which in 1976 took place. When Pleasure at her Majesty's were musicians and comedians on from all over England. As with the later step of Bob Geldof organized Live Aid and Live8 concerts, the Secret Policeman 's Ball all artists on without a fee. The proceeds of the shows goes completely to Amnesty International.

Background

The purpose of the event was to be the support of prisoners of war and political prisoners. This is complemented by the song I shall be released, which was presented at the end of the concert by Sting and all the other musicians.

Musician

There were, among others, Eric Clapton and Phil Collins. In addition, Sting ( shortly after the separation of The Police ), Donovan, Jeff Beck and Sir Bob Geldof.

Comedian

Monty Python also occurred, as well as the Australian comedian Barry Humphries as Dame Edna.
