The Sins of Thy Beloved

The Sins of Thy Beloved is a Norwegian gothic metal band.

History

The band was founded in November 1996 by Glenn Morten Nordbø, Arild Christensen, and Stig Johansen under the name Purgatory, which was soon replaced because of its frequency against The Sins of Thy Beloved. In the spring of 1997, to Anita Augland and Ola Aarrestad advanced band recorded their first demo. After Anders Thue and Ingfrid Stensland had further strengthened the band, the second demo Silent Pain was recorded a year later.

In 1998, the first album, Lake of Sorrow, published by Napalm Records. Pete Johansen, who had already played on Silent Pain violin, now became an official member of the band. The second album, Perpetual Desolation was recorded in 2000 and also released by Napalm Records. On the following tour, Anita Auglend, Anders Thue and Ingfrid Stensland decided to leave the band. In 2001, a live recording on CD and VHS was released.

Since 2001 it has been quiet around the band; Pete Johansen has played ever since violin on some albums by Tristania.

Style

The Sins of Thy Beloved are often compared because of their typical combination of soprano and hard male singing with bands like Tristania and Theatre of Tragedy. The live recordings are much rawer than the studio albums.
