Origin

In Jacob Grimm's handwriting from 1810 Poor girl is a short note. Grimm's note listed from 1812 onwards, to have written it in dark memory, but also called Jean Paul's novel The Invisible Lodge (1793) and Achim von Arnim's novel The Three affectionate sisters and the lucky Dyer (1812 ). The latter takes Grimm's version clearly anticipated and perhaps inspired by the fragment -like insertion in Jean Paul.

Allegory

In many cases, this is Tales of the Brothers Grimm understood as an allegory of an exemplary Christian man who is merciful and generous to people in need of his possession, even if he "at the end " it has apparently " nothing " more himself. This " attitude " as a lived attitude, will be amply rewarded " from heaven " by " Sternthaler " " in heavenly currency" and a " decorative " fine " Seelenkleid " in " eternity " of an " invisible " (but not Unwirkbaren! ) " dressed ". The Tale fits very well into the Christmas season. Sterntaler tells of a girl who first looks at its environment, only then to their own needs. The journey to the stars recalls, for example, to The Singing springing lark.

Receptions

Georg Büchner can tell a similar but very pessimistic, nihilistic colored fairy tales in his drama Woyzeck the grandmother. It wanders the girl went to the moon, then the sun and then to the stars. But the place itself as a rotten piece of wood, a withered sunflower and impaled mosquitoes out: so the girl finally sets alone on a stone.

In Eve Marder's version, a child shares with those whose parents died in the war until it is herself an orphan, as it will be rejected. When black birds star cast like torches from the sky, it wants to die. Janosch parodied the story as a press report of the arrest of two criminals, where the stars were, so to speak fell into his lap due to a calculation error or a clothes gift to an old man. When Fritz Deppert an old man older children take the child his bread, clothes, holding it for a good omen, waiting for the stars that fall down and detonate. When Franz Mon finally scold parents with a voice of thunder from the sky, because the child is naked.
