The phone or the love a threesome is a comic opera in one act by Gian Carlo Menotti. The libretto in English also written by the composer. The work was premiered in 1947 at the Heckscher Theatre New York in collaboration with The medium.

Action

The opera takes place in Lucy's apartment, an apartment in the U.S., probably to the formation time of this opera. Ben must soon go away, but before he goes to his girlfriend Lucy to make her a proposal of marriage. Before he can begin Lucy's ringing phone. She talked long with her friend Margaret. After ending the call, Ben wants to backtrack to speak, but again comes a call. The caller has dialed the wrong number. Ben asks Lucy by pointing to the urgent time to hurry, but these selected after this remark the speaking clock. Ben wants for the third time begin to talk, but now calls George, Lucy complains that they spread a rumor about him. After a short but violent dispute Lucy burst into tears.
