The Three Musketeers (1987 TV series)

D' Artagnan and the Three Musketeers (Japaneseアニメ 三銃士, Anime Sanjūshi ) is an anime television series from 1987 based on the novel by Alexandre Dumas.

Action

The story begins during the first half of the 17th century in France. King Louis the XIII. reigns as sovereign ruler of one of the world powers of the then known world in the Louvre in Paris. He ruled not fully as his successor, Louis the Sun King, but in the shadow of perhaps the most powerful man in France at that time: the first minister, Cardinal Richelieu. He is the true ruler next to the throne through intrigue and cold, razor-sharp intelligence.

The young D' Artagnan of Gascony begins in his home village quarrel over the rather obvious question of whether an elephant is bigger than the cow of the landed gentry of the province. In order to prove his position, he sets off to find an elephant. What he finds is the friendship with Jean, a little boy who is looking for his mother, and love for the lovely Constance, maid of honor of the queen and daughter of a brave tailor. As he, however, his money is stolen in the hustle and bustle of the big city, he takes the advice of his grandfather to heart and decides to work for Captain de Treville as a musketeer. Through some mishaps, he learns the three musketeers Athos, Porthos and Aramis, with whom he arranged to meet the same on his first day to a duel. Shocking enough, told him de Treville, that he can not use him in his guard. However, D' Artagnan keeps friendship and recognition of the three musketeers, the promise him to do everything possible to enable it to be established by the Musketeers. Until then, he and Jean earn their money by taking a bath at home willing people. Aramis was soon one of their best customers, and thanks to a small random white Jean soon realizes that it is the third musketeer is a woman.

The three Musketeers and their new friends can only Richelieu and his cold-hearted subordinates Milady de Winter, a mysterious woman with strange abilities, are dangerous. Just my lady turns out to be arguably the toughest opponent of the Four, as they will stop at nothing. However, with its motto "One for all and all for one" brave Athos, Porthos, Aramis and D' Artagnan every so big or danger.

Characters

Changes from the original novel

The most decisive deviation from the original Dumas ' is the fact that it is at Aramis in the anime a woman. However, the role of Constance was slightly "adapted": While the wife Bonacieuxs is in the original, falls in love with the young, impetuous D' Artagnan, she's here his daughter to the love story between her and D' Artagnan the notoriety to take a clandestine affair. Also an earlier marriage of Milady and Athos with all the consequences of the original is not here.

Production and publication

The series was produced in 1987 from the studios Gakken and KORAD directed by Kunihiko Yuyama. The music was composed by Kohei Tanaka, the leader title Yume Boken (梦 冒 険, dt " dream adventure " ) by Noriko Sakai. Used for the credits to episode 19 Pledge Heart ( Seiyaku ) (プレッジ ハート(誓约), dt " vows " ) and Taiyo no halation (太陽 の ハレーション, dt " sun halo" ) of each pumpkin. The series was broadcast on 9 October 1987 to 17 February 1989 the station NHK in Japan.

The anime was translated into French, Spanish and Italian. The German version was aired on RTL II.
