The World At Night

The World At Night ( TWAN short; German: The Earth at Night) is an international project to artistically appealing photographs, films and animations of the night sky of natural, cultural and historical monuments all over the world to produce and present. Based on his peacemaking motto " One People, One Sky " ( German as: " One people, One Sky " ) would like the project on his website propose and demonstrate a bridge between art, humanity and science, that the night sky over all the sights and symbols of the various nations and regions is always the same and sublime. TWAN wants to emphasize the belonging together nature of the earth as a planet rather than a merging of man-made territories and thus show that humanity is one family under the roof of the night sky.

The project was founded by the Iranian Babak Amin Tafreshi in the autumn of 2007, supported by about 30 photographers from around the world with premiums and is coordinated by the U.S. founded by the American Mike Simmons organization Astronomers Without Borders. In addition to the main galleries of photos and videos on TWAN website, there are also art galleries, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and images that have appeared on the NASA website Astronomy Picture of the Day. There is also a guest gallery, can be uploaded to the own pictures of the night sky. Overall TWAN includes over 1,500 photographs, videos and animations.

The images of this website is subject to traditional copyright laws and is spread over the TWAN website, media contributions and through presentations and exhibitions in different countries. TWAN events were held, among others, in the United States, Brazil, Chile, France, Germany, Italy, Turkey, Algeria, Iran, India, Thailand, South Korea, South Africa and Australia. The images will be published next to it in the form of books and DVDs.

The World At Night has been designated by UNESCO and the International Astronomical Union as a special project of the International Year of Astronomy 2009. So accompanied a TWAN exhibition opening ceremony of the International Year of Astronomy 2009 at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris.
