Théâtre des Champs-Élysées

The Théâtre des Champs- Élysées ( French, German theater of the Champs- Élysées ) is a theater in Paris. It is not on the Champs- Élysées, but on the Avenue Montaigne No. 15, and caught the beginning of the 20th century by its architecture, primarily by scandalous performances stir. The front is decorated with bas-reliefs of Émile -Antoine Bourdelle, representing Apollo with the Muses. Inside there are three rooms on different floors: The Grand Theatre with 2,000 seats, about La Comédie with 655 seats and Le Studio (257 seats), which opened in 1923. Artworks by representatives of the Nabis between Art Nouveau and Art Deco dominate the interior. The dome of the great room as well as the gilded sculptures in the proscenium come by Maurice Denis, the paintings in La comédie by Édouard Vuillard, Ker -Xavier the curtain of Roussel.

In the first year, the Théâtre des Champs- Élysées his intention could meet. The premieres of the Ballets Russes choreographer Vaslav Nijinsky under the ( Jeux by Claude Debussy on 15 May 1913 and to a greater extent Le sacre du printemps by Igor Stravinsky, two weeks later ) are considered as the beginning of the Modern Ballet.

The theater La Comédie reached its peak under the direction of Louis Jouvet 1922-1934.

The Théâtre des Champs- Élysées is now devoted to classical music and home of the Orchestre National de France and the Orchestre Lamoureux and base of the Vienna Philharmonic in France.

Since 2010, Michel Franck is director of the theater.
