Thelma Kingsbury

Thelma Kingsbury ( born January 12, 1911 † August 1979, later known as Thelma Scovil, Thelma Welcome and Thelma Lougheed ) was an English badminton player who competed for the United States later. Her father, Clarence Kingsbury was a British racing driver and two -time Olympic champion. Her sister Leoni Kingsbury was also a successful badminton player.

Career

Thelma Kingsbury won several times the All England, the Welsh Open, Irish Open and the Scottish Open. After moving to the U.S. she was there too successful at the national championships. In 1956, she was among the first persons who was inducted into the U.S. Badminton Hall of Fame. Her last place of residence before her death in August 1979, Los Angeles.
