Thelypteridaceae

Thelypteris acuminata

The Sumpffarngewächse ( Thelypteridaceae ) are a family of genuine ferns ( Polypodiopsida ).

Features

The rhizomes are creeping, ascending or erect and hold at the top of the shed. The petioles are cross-sectional two elongated or crescent-shaped vascular bundles at the distal end of the two join to a gutter- shaped vascular bundles. The leaf blades are usually pinnate or pinnatisect. The nerves are branches fiederig, forming free or anastomose. The spreading are busy with needle-like hairs.

The sori are on the underside of leaves, are round to oblong, rarely long, and are at the cores. The indusium is kidney-shaped or missing. The sporangia have a three-row, short to long stem. The spores are ellipsoidal, monolet ( have a scar ). The Perine is winged up stung.

The basic chromosome number is x = 27 or 36

Dissemination

The family is pantropical spread, a few species also occur in temperate areas. They grow terrestrial, rarely on rocks.

System

The genus comprises 5 to 30 genera, depending on how broadly or narrowly the genera are defined. They include some 950 species. The family is monophyletic. The classes are according to Smith et al. 2006:

  • Cyclosorus link (incl. Ampelopteris, Amphineuron, Chingia, Christmas Ella, Cyclogramma, Cyclosoruss.str. , Glaphyropteridopsis, Goniopteris, Meniscium, Menisorus, Mesophlebion, Pelazoneuron, Plesioneuron, Pneumatopteris, Pronephrium, Pseudocyclosorus, Sphaerostephanos, Stegnogramma, Steiropteris, Trigonospora ), with more than 170 species.
  • Macrothelypteris (H. Ito ) Ching, with about 11 species between South Africa and the Mascarene Islands to Hawaii.
  • Phegopteris (C. Presl ) Fée, with about 19 species, including the: Buchenfarn ( Phegopteris connectilis ( Michx. ) Watt )
