Theodoor Galle

Theodor Galle ( baptized July 16, 1571 in Antwerp, buried December 18, 1633 ) was a Dutch engraver of the early Baroque.

The son of Philip Galle and brother of Cornelius Galle the Elder. went to an apprenticeship with his father to Rome, where he studied ancient monuments. The findings were published under the title " imagines ex antiquis marmoribus, numismatibus et gemmis expressae ". Later he went back to Antwerp, there to operate an engraving trade. In addition to copies of Peter Paul Rubens he produced their own designs, which he collected under the title "Speculum Illustrium virginum " and " Life of the Virgin ".
