Theodor von Schacht

Theodor Freiherr von Schacht (* 1748 in Strasbourg, † June 20, 1823 in Regensburg ) was a German composer.

Life

Theodor von Schacht got his first training with the court musicians Küffner and Joseph Riepel in Regensburg. In 1766 he was a pupil of Niccolò Jommelli ( 1714-1774 ) in Stuttgart. After his studies in Stuttgart and Wetzlar, he returned to Regensburg COURTIER. There he was in 1773 appointed director of court music and entrusted with the construction of an Italian opera. In 1790 he was appointed counsel to the princely secret and 1796 awarded for his services to the court music with an honorarium for life. In 1805, Schacht went on a trip to Vienna, there to collect musical impressions and to make itself known as a composer. Among the highlights of this trip included meeting with Beethoven's pupil Archduke Rudolph of Austria and Napoleon I., in whose honor he composed six masses. In 1812, Schacht returned to Regensburg, where he died in 1823.
