Theodor von Strattman

Count Theodor Heinrich von Strattmann (* 1637, † October 25, 1693 ) was an Austro- German diplomat and Chancellor under Leopold I.

Career

Strattmann a Clever noble entstammend, began his career in the service of the Elector of Brandenburg, later the Elector Philipp Wilhelm von Pfalz- Neuburg in Dusseldorf, where he reached the post of Vice- Chancellor. From his sovereign presented at the Imperial Court in Vienna, he entered the service of Leopold I.

He was a diplomat involved, among others, on the marriage of Leopold I with Eleonore von Pfalz -Neuburg ( 1676 ) and in negotiations during the peace negotiations in Nijmegen (1678 /79). From 1680 to 1683 principal envoy in Regensburg, he was called in 1683 for the position of Hofkanzlers to Vienna. This position he owed not only his ability, but also his status as an impartial stranger in Vienna. In 1685 he brokered the marriage of Max Emanuel of Bavaria with Leopold's daughter Maria Antonia. From 1687 to 1690 worked Strattmann forget to save the Habsburgs, the Hungarian royal crown hereditary. Despite its far-reaching powers as chancellor Strattmann remained an honest broker, leaving the emperor always the final decision.

Private life

His first wife was Mechtilde of Mollard. His second wife was Eleonore Therese, née Countess Schellard. Two children were Strattmanns Heinrich Johann Franz von Strattmann ( born 1668 in Cleveland, later ambassador of HRR in the Netherlands) and Eleonora Batthyány Strattmann ( born 1672).
