Theodor W. Adorno Award

The Theodor W. Adorno Award of the City of Frankfurt am Main is awarded philosophy, music, theater and film for recognition of outstanding achievements in the fields since 1977.

In memory of Theodor W. Adorno, who had for twenty years, until his death in 1969, taught at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt. Since 1977 takes place every three years (except 2003, when he - was awarded after two years - on the occasion of the centenary of Adorno), for the birthday of philosopher and art critic, September 11, in St. Paul's Church, the ceremony instead. The award is the recognition of cultural presence and its promotion.
